Roof Restoration Needed
One of our community’s most beloved and iconic buildings, the Marshall County Historic Courthouse, built in 1891, is preparing for an important restoration effort: the complete replacement of its aging roof.
At 133 years old, the building stands as a symbol of our town’s rich history and architectural legacy. Over the decades, it has withstood storms, seasons, and the passage of time. But now, its roof has reached the end of its life span and must be replaced to ensure the safety, integrity, and longevity of the structure.
The roof replacement is part of a larger historic preservation initiative aimed at maintaining the building's original character while upgrading it for future generations. Chappel Roofing of Fairbury, Nebraska is working with the Marshall County Historical Society to remove the slate shingles and replace them with a synthetic slate-looking shingle that is approved by the Kansas State Historical Society.
Once again, a major repair job is before us. Hopefully, work can begin this fall.
